Day 208 – Paris Keychain

Paris keychain

Paris souvenir keychain.

I’ve been to Paris. Twice. It was worth the trip.

I think this keychain was a gift from a friend who went to Paris before me. I don’t usually buy souvenir type trinkets for myself. Unless they’re vintage of course:)

Paris keychain

Status: Now that I’ve been to Paris, give away. Or use for mailbox key. The “vintagey” cracker jax box keychain is getting worn out.

Kill-ratio: 13:2 / ~6:1

Alt-title: Untitled Objet Numéro 208 For A Lost Romantic.

I direct you towards People, Places and Bling for a little dose of Paris.

(Marianne Faithful’s The Ballad of Lucy Jordan for those of you outside of N.A.)

And, as always le petit bonjour for Richard and John for inspiring the alt-title folies. And to Ben for the joke format.

Day 207 – Casters

casters

Furniture casters. Found in same bag that the extremely useful (although not yet installed) ball bearings/drawer runner were hiding. In a ziplock bag. A little too ziplocked.

casters

Will these actually get installed on the huge tallboy? Somehow I think not. The tallboy was my parents, so it’s vintage and heavy. A beautiful piece of furniture (real wood) but heavy. Heavy.

“When an irresistible force such as you
Meets an old immovable object like me”…

casters

Status: Consider selling tallboy complete with casters.

Kill-ratio: 27:3 / 9:1

Alt-title: Untitled Objects No. 207 For Shoring Up the Past.

If you can’t see this in your country, it’s Sammy Davis Jr. “Singing Something’s Gotta Give”

The usual shout out to Richard and John for inspiring this Alt Title obsession. Read John’s post about titles for the initial impetus.
And I direct you towards Ben for jokes at the end of posts.

And anyone who knows how to code html will I hope appreciate the alt title sensibility.

Day 206 – Single to Double Phone Jack

double phone jack

Single to double phone jack adapter.

We at the OP residence, are amongst the last of our kind to still have a land line. Two in fact, counting the one at the studio/office. Which coincidentally is down right now (as well as the internet) and so I got to experience first hand today what not having the landline at the stuffice would be like. I can report that the only irritation I felt was the 45 minutes used up on my cell while I waited on hold for someone at Telus to answer the phone. They never did, I eventually tweeted and await a response.

Status: See how the sea monster can use this.

Kill-ratio: 26: 2 / 13:1

Alt-title: Untitled Object No. 206 for a Double Life.

As per usual, a shout-out thanks to Richard, and to John, for inspiring the Alt-Title Untitled post poppycock, and to Ben for the jokes format. I hope there’s someone out there who knows html and appreciates the extra element of the “joke” (no pun intended)

Day 205 – Ballbearings / Drawer Runner

Ball bearings in drawer runner
Ball bearings in runner for a drawer. The drawer squeaks and doesn’t move very well. Now I know why.

The furniture is a tallboy. Old fashioned, but super solidly built. It was my parents.

This is the thing about clutter, once you start clearing it out you find useful items. This was in a bag with the casters for this piece of furniture – which are obsolete. These ballbearings however, goodbye squeak hello smooth rolling.

Status: Notify Mr. OP of find. Have him insert into drawer.

Kill-ratio: 28:3 / ~9:1

Alt-title: Untitled Object No. 205 to Find One’s Bearings

As per usual, a shout-out thanks to Richard, and to John, for inspiring the Alt-Title Untitled post babble, and to Ben for the jokes format. I hope there’s someone out there who knows html and appreciates the extra element of the “joke” (no pun intended).

Day 204 – Lloyd’s Accumatic 320 Calculator

Lloyd's Calculator

Lloyd’s Accumatic Calculator. Model 320. Made in Japan.

Lloyd's Calculator

Found this beast when tidying up under a desk. I particularly like the burnt orange to beige to sienna brown colour combo. Very swank.

This is the fifth calculator featured on Project Obso. I count the slide rule as well as the Dalton adding machine.

More obsolete calculators found at  Vintage Calculators Old calculators museum and Datamath.

Lloyd's Calculator

Not surprisingly dusty.

Status: Pretty sure this is a Mr.OP garage sale find. It still works, so that makes it harder to convince him it must go. The sea monster has enough power now.

Kill-ratio: 19:2 / ~10:1

(pix with captions don’t count towards ratio)

Alt-title: Untitled Found Object No. 320 for 204 calculations.

The usual thanks to John and Richard for kicking off these uncalculated alt titles. And to Ben for the format summary “joke” at the end of posts.
