Day 76 – Wine decanter holder thing

wine holder thing

Stamped “Primrose Plate E.P. Brass 74” We use it for holding bottles of wine.

Occasional use that is, which is why it makes its appearance here. I read a book about clutter, okay several books about clutter, and they all emphasize this bit about actually using stuff. Once in a blue moon use qualifies the object as clutter.

I’m not sure if its original purpose is for holding a wine decanter, but searching around for the Primrose Plate E.P. brass brings up wine related things, so I don’t think I’m too far off.

When I asked my partner if he got it at a garage sale, he said “That’s yours isn’t it”. So, a new tag gets added today – “origin unknown”.

Status: It ain’t necessarily so. (super occasional use = clutter). So, Keep, defiantly.

Day 75 – Island Doll

Caribbean Doll

Caribbean Souvenir Doll. Cloth.

This gal is tall. 13″ inches if you don’t count her hat, another 2″ with the red hat.

She could be a good contender for a back-up muse. Like all the other dolls in my collection, she isn’t so much obsolete (other than the literal no longer being a kid playing with dolls) as she is part of general clutter, hanging around not being properly displayed or admired.

Status: Build shelf for all these dolls. They are unbearably sweet.

Day 74 – Momentum Pedometer

PEdometer

#projectGetFit has rendered this pedometer obsolete. That is, for said project I purchased a running app ( has a few shortcomings, but generally it’s worth the princely sum) and gradually noticed I didn’t need the pedometer anymore.

Also it’s no longer counts the steps or kms properly. Gives a huge inaccuracy for distance, under-reporting kms, so not the type of inaccuracy that makes you feel good. I hung onto it because I’ve had quite a few of these (Momemtum pedometers) all from Mountain Equipment Co-op. They always inevitably break – the clip falls off, or they start becoming inaccurate after too many falls. But I faithfully stuck with the brand because it’s cheap and super easy to use.

It’s not only that the GPS app replaces the technology of the pedometer, which is based upon your hip movement (that changes if you are running or walking of course), it’s that I (ta dum) finally feel on the road to fitness, and getting my 10,000 steps is built into my life, I don’t need the thing sticking out from my belt to remind me to exercise.

So, au revoir momentum, but thanks for the memories.

OT – Karmic Rebalancing Part II

Bag of Stuff to Donate

This is the second bag of stuff to make it into the donation bin since Project Obso began.

Once again, there is only one item within that is from these musings about obsolescence, but it does count! It also enjoys the exalted status of having already left the premises, as opposed to those items waiting by the door,  almost sneaking their way back into the closet, inch by stealthful inch.

Bag of Donated Clothes

Status: Gone!

(Doesn’t look like a lot – it’s a big bag, and the stuff is folded very neatly. Mainly clothes, sweater (1), t-shirts (2), officey black skirt that’s too big but in perfect shape, and other odds and sods.)

Day 73 – Lee Belt

Lee Belt Buckle

This belt has so much patina, I’ve literally kept it for the wear and tear, even though the wear and tear isn’t mine.

Vintage Lee Belt

A close up view of the holes (reason #8 for purchase of macro lens) looks vaguely like some nebula floating out there. Which I only just (re)learned that a nebula is essentially a cloud of stardust.  And some other stuff thrown in there, but dust speaks to me more. Neato.

Lee Holes Close Up

Status: Investigate standard wear pattern of cracking leather and find out what type of mathematical formula predicts it. Then sell.
