Day 158 – Liquor / Decanter Bottle Labels

Sherry Label

Booze Tags. Scotch, 2 Sherries, Brandy, Cognac.

I first tagged this vintage, then think they are closer to antique, belonging to Mr. OP’s grandparents or relatives of some sort. Perhaps a wedding gift from friends?

I’m not much of a hard liquor drinker, although I have learned to not hate scotch. We have no decanters other than the one above (garage sale) which just sits there taking up the light very nicely and looking pretty.

Bottle Labels

Status: Surely fodder for the Mad Men party.

Kill-ratio: 18:2 / 9:1
N.B. Project Obsoitis was undertaken at home this weekend, rather than lugging the pink bottle down to the studio, hence the different background, for those who notice these things.

Alt title: Untitled Label No. 158 for Closing Time

“Ah we’re drinking and we’re dancing
And the band is really happening
And the Johnny Walker wisdom’s running high”

Closing Time, Leonard Cohen, 1992

So, if you hit the tab key and something else you accidentally publish your post. I meant to add another shout out to The Future is Papier Mache and Notes to the Milkman for the source of Alt Titles, Untitled Jokes, Limericks et al.

Day 157 – Book: Short History of Scientific Ideas to 1900

Book - Short History of Scientific Ideas

Short History of Scientific Ideas To 1900. Charles Singer. Oxford University Press.

The title makes me wonder if someone has published the equivalent text for the 20th century?

The illustrations are what make this book sing. No pun intended Mr. Singer. Yet, despite the poor condition of the dust jacket, I have not cracked it open to read.

Book

Status: Read and keep for inspiring moments. I heard a writer on the radio talking about how for inspiration he re-reads certain passages of books on his bookshelf. I thought this was a nice idea, and shall soon imitate it, only with all the books I have that are illustrated, seeing as I’m not a writer:)

Kill-ratio: 28:2 or 14:1

Alt Title: Untitled Book No.157, The MoonLight Sonata Played Backwards.

Inspired by The Great Event – Leonard Cohen.

It’s going to happen very soon. The great event which will end the horror. Which will end the sorrow. Next Tuesday, when the sun goes down, I will play the Moonlight Sonata backwards. This will reverse the effects of the world’s mad plunge into suffering, for the last 200 million years. What a lovely night that would be. What a sigh of relief, as the senile robins become bright red again, and the retired nightingales, pick up their dusty tails, and assert the majesty of creation!

Day 155 – Litebook Anthem

Litebook

Litebook.

Full spectrum light box for replacing natural sunlight during the winter, or the long rainy season. This one is pretty small and although you feel like it should be working, I can’t offer conclusive evidence that it does. My theory is the device needs to be a lot bigger to work.

I thought the power cord for this was lost, and so it was consigned to the dumpster (after posting of course), but then I found the cord. Must be my successful clearing of all the other cables that were floating about.

Litebook

Status: The rainy season is just past us (June was the cruelest month, not April) so I should perhaps wait until the Fall and give it one last shot at working. Alternately, might be useful bits for the sea monster. She will be born.

Kill-ratio: 28:2 – 14:1

Alt title: Untitled Ode to Light No. 155*

There is a crack in everything.
That’s how the light gets in.

Anthem. Leonard Cohen

* Inspired by The Future is Papier Mache’s series of titled posts dedicated to vinyl, which is on Joni Mitchell songs now, I might just start a series of posts with Alt titles that refer to Leonard Cohen songs/poems.

These Alt titles are all part of a loose set of jokes, limericks and Alternate Post Titles dedicated to the Untitled Post. Thanks to Richard (TFIPM) and Notes to the Milkman for the concept.

Day 153 – Keychain for Photos

Key Chain

Key Chain from London Drugs.

Still has barcode label on it. You could bring this into LD and get a 2nd set of photos printed for 99 cents. Maybe they still offer this deal, I don’t know. When was the last time I went and had a set of prints printed? I’m speaking of the casual shots, not art prints or special occasion prints.

That’s in fact another item to clear out – duplicates of photos. The 4×6 ones. Not the digital ones – those will await the acquiring of way better software than iPhoto for sorting through images.

Key Chain

Status: Dusted

Kill-ratio: 22:2 – 11:9

Day 152 – Rain boots

Boots

Rain Boots.

Worn twice. Once in the store, once outside. The scuff marks and dust are simply residue from being stuck in the back of the closet for about two years.

The funny thing is it rains a lot here. Today happened to be glorious, but in all of June we had 40% more precipitation than normal and 68% less sunlight.

The not so funny thing is I can’t really walk in these boots. I convinced myself I could when I bought them, but reality quickly set in the one rainy day I wore them.

Being practically brand new, it’s hard to justify their presence here in obsolescence land, other than as clutter. Yet, where I feel they qualify is they belong to an obsolete version of me.

Boots

Status: Donate. Mr. OP was encouraging me to put them on Craigslist, and I did wipe them spotless and then take a few pics. But my heart’s not in it. Off to the sally ann they go.

Kill-ratio: 18:2 or 9:1

Alt Title: These Untitled Boots Were Not Made For Walking.
