Day 131 – Clip-On Earring

Clip on Earring

Clip on Earring. Made in Japan. Solo. Garage Sale Treasure.

Once I started mining the bathroom for things that were Obsoing, I found a few more (surprise) items of jewellery that are in various states.

  • Needing Repair
  • Missing Mates
  • Ridiculous
  • Ridiculously Ugly

This falls into the missing the mate category.  Normally I might just have chucked it. Then I noticed the “Japan” on the back of the clip on. Which has me now on the hunt for its mate. The bathroom was renovated a few months ago and everything tossed into various bags and boxes. Not everything could squeeze back in as the new cabinets were smaller. It might not be missing.

Btw, a lot of junk got tossed then before I decided upon this project.

Clip on Earring

Status: Find mate. If found, wear. If not, toss.

Kill-ratio: 18:2 or 9 to 1

Day 130 – Brooch

Vintage Brooch

Vintage Brooch. Same garage sale as the Powder Compact.

Brooches also known as fibulae (the truly ancient) are one of the oldest forms of jewellery. I suppose they have been replaced by the ever so practical, less likely to poke your skin, button.

Back of Brooch

Vintage Brooch

Status: Surely there is an outfit in the back of my closet that merits sporting this baby. Or an event.

Kill-ratio: 28:3 or 9:1

Day 129 – Rhyming Dictionary

Rhyming Dictionary

Rhyming Dictionary. Pocket Sized.

A delightful gift that has remained unused for a few, okay lots, of years.
Perhaps  all dictionaries, encyclopedias etc as a genre  are ipso facto obsolete?

I found “About” 7,000,000 results (love how they put that About in there – you couldn’t be a tad more precise Missus G00gle?) which boggles the mind. The top few results are all indeed searchable dictionaries.

This one is old. It has a reference to Eisenhower rhyming with Flower.

Status: I always have a tough time with letting go of gifts. And this one promises hours of fun.

Kill-ratio: 33:3 or 11:1

Untitled Jokes stifled by searching for a rhyme for untitled and getting zero results. Zero(!)

Taking off the “un” gave 1 result: Unbridled.

Mr. Untitled got a Bit Unbridled ….

I had a full limerick written, but Mr. O.P. has sensibly banned its publication.

Day 128 – Compass

Compass

Geotec Compass. The brand name almost sounds ahead of its time. But I bet it’s vintage.

It’s another borrowed item from Mr. O.P.

It’s been so long since I used one of these I had to google to remember the name. Not quite true, I had it right the first time, then I doubted that was it and thought it was a protractor (related of course) but then landed back on compass. Why is compass the same name for this tool and for a sea captain (or space captain)’s device?

Compass

Compass

This one had been sitting for so long it acquired a friend.

Compass

Status: Not mine to decide. Phew. It brought back good memories though. I like Math.

Kill-ratio: 38:3  (pic 3 is a detail of 2) or ~13:1

Untitled Joke of the Day: “Untitled No.13,  What is the square root of 169?…… Are You Sleeping Back There Untitled 13 I’m Talking To YOU!”

Untitled References /Jokes are traceable to Day 116 for sources and inspiration.

p.s. I’ve surpassed reasons to acquire macro lens, the insect pal really needed it. Someday soon.
