I was surprised to find BB’s website still exists – but then I read that after filing for bankruptcy they were aquired by Dish Network earlier this year. Nonetheless, the store near us has been closed for about 2 years I think. It’s a big hulk of a store, with an odd oblong shape. I think re-purposing it would be challenging, and hence it sits empty, an echoing chamber of the goliath it used to be.

Alt-title credits/info and kill-ratio stuff here.
Just discussed the theme of dvd/video-rentals with a friend some days ago. He said he saw a place where you could rent a dvd for 5 kroner (approximately 1 dollar).
Think we still have a BB on our high street – it’s very dark inside from what I remember. And full of action films I’ve never heard of. Love the alt title!
So maybe they aren’t finished in the UK. Very dark, sounds scary.
Glad you like the title.
we still have a block buster 🙂 cant remember last time i went in there though…………
Hence the bankruptcy (here at least):)
Excellent theme for Obsolescence!
We have at least two of these lying around that resurface now and then. I swear they migrate through the house. One isn’t even ours. My daughter once pocketed a friend’s mother’s card that never was returned before Blockbuster went bust. Still I don’t throw these out. (We also have uncashed Borders gift cards — even worse).
The old BB store in our neighborhood (a RiteAid before it was BB) now functions happily as a laundromat.
Thanks Ann. Isn’t it funny how we keep these sorts of things? Traces …. Unwashed cards though – yes thyr should be used up. I am guilty of having a couple of these hanging around too. I bet these companies make a lot of dough on the un cashed cards:)
