Day 342 – Album with a punched hole

Cat Stevens Album

Cat Stevens, Foreigner.   1973.

This is a 2nd-hand twice removed object. I don’t think I’ve ever played it, though clearly it’s been played a lot. Or at least the cover is in such a shape as show some wild parties might have taken place in its vicinity.

Wikipedia has usefully informed me that Cat Stevens moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1973, to avoid taxes, and that he recorded this album in Jamaica. Hence the title I gather.  He later redeemed his tax soul by donating the money to Unesco.

I also see it wasn’t really a hit album. Apparently he is back recording again – although I haven’t heard anything on the radio, but I did once catch a few minutes of a documentary on him. “Yusuf: The Artist formerly Known as Cat Stevens“, it’s from 2006.

Cat Stevens Album

The hole in the corner on the album is because it’s a promo copy by the record company. This I know because of the occupation of the previous (once removed) owner.

Cat Stevens Album

A lot of wax drops got on this record. I wonder if they could be identified forensically?

Status: Undecided.  (It’s this busy thing I mentioned, the capacity for decisions is limited)

Day 341 – Cufflink Watch

Cufflink Watch

Lone cufflink with built in watch. Garage sale treasure. Used to work.

When I whimpered to Mr. OP that I was running out of objects, he dug into a little pouch and found this beauty.
I neglected to check up on the maker, and now it has been whisked away back to its hiding place, so I can’t provide any info in that regard.

Cufflink Watch
Status:  Fix so Mr. OP can wear to a James Bond party. There must be one out there.

Kill-ratio: 6:2/ 3:1
(really this is the lowest yet I believe, at least since I started counting*)

Alt-title: Untitled Object No. 341  For Telling Time to Strangers.

* re: counting > I’m at over 5000 pix now since this project began (the camera keeps track!). Which averages out at about 15 pix per day, that  I think makes sense, but who’s counting?

p.s. In the midst of a frightfully busy schedule right now (despite it being January) and so regretfully not quite on top of checking out everyone’s blogs. Will be back at it mid-next  week I trust. Cheers

Day 340 – Black Bow Tie

Black Bow Tie

Black Bow Tie for Tuxedo. Mint Condition. Still in Bag!

Black Bow Tie

Mr. OP cleaned out his some of the closet (I think January, April and September must top the list as decluttering months), and opened up an old Tux from a wedding where he was part of the bridal party. He didn’t wear this bow tie.

The tux has moth holes in it. eew. This was protected by the plastic.

It’s only a clip-on though, and not even close to vintage, as it does hail from this century.

Day 304 featured a vintage bow tie – not a clip on, but still pre-tied, so not truly fitting for black tie, so they say.

Status: I leave it to Mr. OP to decide its fate.  Flog on craigslist (at 70% off!)  or donate to the Sally Ann. Too bad it’s not Hallowe’en.

Kill-ratio: 28:3/ ~9:1

Day 339 – DVD of Photo Tips/Instructions

DVD of photo instructions

Unopened DVD of instructions/tips for how to use your digital camera. The same camera I am still using (itself no doubt obsolete – a Nikon D5000). It was a free “bonus” that came with the camera – they valued it fairly high if memory serves. Never got around to opening this up and watching, or using the special offers inside! They expired on January 31, 2010.

Status: Is it immoral to slip this into the Sally Ann box? If so, then recycle.

Kill-ratio: 28:2 / 14:1

Day 338 – Wristwatch

wrist watch

Wristwatch with Roman numerals. Notice the 4 is IIII, not IV. Theories as to why this is so range from association with Louis the XIV, to showing respect for the Roman God Jupiter (because the latin spelling of his name is IVPPITER ). It’s a nice anomaly, but then again I’ve never truly understood the logic of roman numerals – although I like the look.

Mr. OP loaned this to Obsoland. It was a gift from his father, so even though it’s broken, he is sentimentally attached.
