Day 229 – Ink Cartridges

Ink Cartridges

Ink Cartridges. Epson. Used.

It’s really the printer that is obsolete, and may be featured here soon. Printers and their inks embody the concept of built-in-obsolescence. I had to change the ink cartridges the other day and it struck me how there is now three times the waste now that they’ve got them in individual colours, which is of course a feature selling point.

Ink Cartridges

Status: Discarded. I now realize I should fetch them out of the bin and bring to the recycling depot near me which will take such waste. Quickly before anything mucky gets on it. Although we have two worm composting bins, so they gleefully get most of the muck.

Alt-title: Untitled Objects No. 229 in Cyan, Black, Magenta and Yellow.

As usual Untitled Alt Titles were originally inspired by John’s blog and Richard’s posts at The Future is Papier Mache. “Joke” Alt-title format inspired by Ben‘s joke format at the end of his posts.

If you are more romantic about ink, Day 164’s Inkwell  should hit the spot.

Day 228 – Photo Album

Photo Album

Photo Album. Not nearly as cute as Day 182’s vintage album.

This is the type of album you would get for free if you ordered duplicates when you had film processed. It’s cheap and looks it, and the plastic is the type that will gradually yellow and stain the images over time. But there is a certain beauty to the bluntness of this type of book. I feel like it was made for grandmothers or new moms to easily carry in their clutch purses and show off babies or grandkids.

This one contains mainly snapshots and I’m not sure why it’s still hanging around.

Photo Album Memories

Status: Weed through, scan pix that seem important. Discard (recycle?) plastic.

Kill-ratio: 28:2/ 14:1

Alt-title: Untitled Object No. 228 For Remembering Things Past.

As usual Untitled Alt Titles were originally inspired by John’s blog (read original title post ) and Richard’s posts at The Future is Papier Mache. “Joke” Alt-title format inspired by Ben‘s joke format at the end of his posts.

Day 227 – Souvenir Spoon

Spoon in Box

Collector’s Spoon. Still in Original Box.

The box was made in Winnipeg (Canada).

It says “Love is Eternal”, but the way the text is split, I always thought it was something latin.

Love is Et neral. It’s only in pulling it out of the drawer and examining it more closely did I see the text was the more obvious and simple “Love is Eternal”.

Wikipedia lets me know the first souvenir spoon in the US was made in 1890. In 1891, a souvenir Salem witch spoon was made and sold seven thousand copies. Take that in for a moment.

7,000 spoons sold in 1891.

The Witch Spoon

Spoon

This was a gift. By someone precious to me. Hence its non-thrown away status even though it hasn’t really been “opened”. Should I dedicate a shelf to such spoons? Between Mr. OP and moi we have a few of these “collectible” keepsakes.

Spoon in Box

Status: Hem and Haw some more. Then throw a coin in the air. I’ve heard this is the best way to make a decision when you are indecisive.

Or search for the original advertisement for the “Witch” spoon and frame it. Might be a tad expensive.

In case this video doesn’t show up in your locale, this is nothing to do with spoons – other than the band is The Lovin’ Spoonful – performing Summer in the City.

Alt-Titles/Shout-Outs:

For a fascinating exploration of Salem history I direct you to Streets of Salem – a super blog.

As per usual, thanks to   Richard, and  John, for inspiring the Alt-Title Untitled post gobbledeegook, and to Ben for the jokes format at the end of posts. I hope there’s someone out there who knows html and appreciates the extra element of the “joke” (no pun intended).

Day 226 – Green Glass Pendant

Green Glass Pendant

Green Glass Pendant.

I’ve had this for a long time. I used to wear it a lot.

Then one day it stopped having that old special feeling. But I am so attached to the sense of joy I used to get wearing it that I have never thrown it away. So its presence is entirely symbolic. It’s only glass, not some precious or semi-precious stone. I bought it in one of those alternative/esoteric  shops (with incense and books on the tarot) and if I remember correctly it had something to do with luck.

It’s hard to toss out luck. But it must be done.

Green Glass Pendant

Status: Donate. Aargh. Even as I type this, I can think it might be neat to shoot some images through that green glass. Sucker.

Alt-title: Untitled Object No. 226 For Seeing The World With an Eco Consciousness.

Untitled/Alt-titles:

Yesterday I enjoyed an entire day offline. It was a Sunday. I hiked in the woods and ate salmon on the beach. Today that mini-holiday from the offline world added up to a bit of catching up, not too much, but a bit. Which of course, further delays this explanatory post I now feel must been done – about Alt-Titles, and because MJ asked, I will throw in the Kill-ratio too.

Until the moment for that inspired post comes (next weekend at this rate), the usual nod of appreciation to  Richard, and  John, for inspiring the Alt-Title Untitledpost delirium, and to Ben for the jokes format. I hope there’s someone out there who knows html and appreciates the extra element of the “joke” (no pun intended

Day 225 – Brooch

Turquoise Brooch

Turquoise Brooch. Vintage, but not ancient enough to be fibulae if I understand the meaning correctly.

Garage Sale find. By me. I remember getting it. I’ve worn it a few times, but it’s been quite a  few moons.

Can jewellery really be called clutter? It doesn’t take up that much space, and you don’t always wear items all the time, but probably have the intention of doing so at some point. I saw a poster recently on social media about how there are seven days in the week and Someday isn’t one of them.

Day 130 also featured a garage sale brooch and a botched attempt at an Untitled limerick – just in case you missed it.

Turquoise Brooch

Status: Nail down Someday and be sure to wear with turquoise/amber ring (something I wear daily, so not a problem).

Untitled/Alt-titles:

I’m pre-posting this as today (now Sunday) I will be hiking on the North Shore for the Coho Salmon Walk and I intend to amplify the nature experience by spending the whole day offline. I accomplished a few days offline while on vacation this summer, and find I need to consider re-incorporating that into my life. Which is all to say I will soon do a post about this Alt-Title stuff, but not today:) Until then, the usual nod of appreciation to  Richard, and  John, for inspiring the Alt-Title Untitled post delirium, and to Ben for the jokes format. I hope there’s someone out there who knows html and appreciates the extra element of the “joke” (no pun intended)
