Day 323 – Tea Caddy Spoon

Tea caddy spoon

Commemorative Charles Dickens tea caddy spoon.

Tea caddies were used to keep tea leaves locked up, back in the day when tea was quite dear. Which, if you go to places like David’s Tea here, it still is. The tea caddy spoon was used to measure the leaves out.

Status: The old sod’s B-day approaches on February 7th. A tea party must ensue.

Kill-ratio: 19:1

*(Yesterday I made a mistake and typed 323. Today is 323 until I re-jig and correct the duplications, and then might really be 322 or 321, but who’s counting)

Day 322 – 45 The Outsiders

45 The Outsiders

45, from the Box of 45s. The Outsiders, American Rock n’ Roll Band, 1960s. They were best known for their hit on this 45, “Time Won’t Let Me”. I never heard of them until now. Read all about them at ClassicBands.

I know vinyl purists might be irate that I’m leaning this record against the window, outside of the sleeve. But it’s not in mint condition, so no worries.

Day 321 – Egg Slicer

Egg Slicer

Vintage Egg Slicer. 1950s/60s?

A garage sale find. We have actually used it a few times. It produces very thin, elegant slices of egg, harkening back to the 1950s of imagination.

Day 320 – Vintage Photograph With Fence

vintage photograph

Vintage photograph of two unknown children.

This was stuck in a book and unearthed a few years ago. I thought it was Mr. OP’s and he thought it was mine. It’s only recently we realized it is from neither of our families.

Status: Write  a very short story which finds these girls (but maybe one is a boy ? –  clothing might not have been so gender specific then) in the present, one a palm reader, the other a financial advisor. They bump into each other on the street and catch up.

Kill-ratio: 26:2 / ~13/2

p.s.

Hope everyone enjoyed a very Merry Christmas, if you celebrated, if not hope you enjoyed the day off. Or at least had the day off eh? Here at the OP household, we enjoyed a non-traditional supper of  baked wild salmon stuffed with quinoa, portobello mushrooms and leeks. Accompanied by mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts and peas. Grateful.

Day 319 – Xmas Salt Shakers

Xmas Salt Shakers

Mr. and Mrs. Frosty Salt Shakers. Unused.

Xmas Salt Shakers

The label is still stuck on Mrs. Frosty.

Mr. OP is not fond of these kitschy beasts. They aren’t a family heirloom, representing only a moment of fiscal weakness when they were on sale a few years ago. I’m partial to salt and pepper shakers.   Seeing as we’ve never used them and they aren’t vintagey cute, Mr. OP has threatened their exile and only permitted their last appearance for the sake of this project.

Xmas Salt Shakers

Mrs. Frosty refuses to talk to Mr. Frosty since she found out he failed to secure their home.

Xmas Salt Shakers

She softens her mood as she gazes at their potential new home.

Status: Donate. Or Create A Brief Stop Motion Animation of Frosty Revisted.
